About Us

Company History:

Golden Quill Press and The Write Source were started in New York in 1998, by writers, editors and publishers. These professionals had worked in the publishing field for over twenty years and were seeing how, difficult it was becoming each day to get published.  The best seller lists were generally reflecting the same authors and the same major publisher.  So how was a first-time novelist going to get noticed?

In their effort to help writers find an alternative to expensive self-publishing Golden Quill Press offered Cooperative Publishing, a custom designed system for the writer to choose what services they want and how many books to print. This feature continues to give writers the ability to see their work in print sooner, easier and cheaper and to avail themselves of the advice, and expertise of the professionals at
The Write Source and Golden Quill Press.

The principals, Francine Barish-Stern, (Cefola) and Bobbi Madry also responded to writer’s needs, and put together a package of services and educational workshops, books and individual training that helped writers learn the ins and outs of their craft.

Then in 2005, Golden Quill Press went one step further.  As a result of years of workshops, forums, and individual training, Barish-Stern and Madry began writing a text/workbook, “From An Idea to your Published Story.” This writer’s guide is an interactive journey through the writing world that has been so well received that many writers have used its methods to turn their ideas into the written word.  For the fifth edition printing in 2016, a new cover has just been created and the name has changed to, “HOW TO WRITE YOUR BOOK, From An Idea to Your Published Story.”   Also, to reach out to as many people interested in writing as possible, in 2006 all writing services were put on the Internet.

Over the years Golden Quill Press has partnered with other companies to help writers.  One such company is Greetings on Gold. Many writers get their experience writing greeting cards, so in 2002 the Write Source and Greetings on Gold joined together to help writers publish their poems and verse onto Elegant Goldtone Metal Greeting Cards.

Francine Barish-Stern has been a writer since she was 13 and has worked as a freelance writer for newspapers and magazines, including Town Magazine and Network Magazine.  She has written many award-winning poems, stories, including Rainbow’s City which won the ACOR prize for arts related works.  Francine also used her acting and teaching background, when she co-wrote The WE Nobody Knows,” for Crown Players. She has received many awards from New York State for her work with youth, school workshops and “Tell It To The Future,” seminars.

From 1998 to the present Francine has been the Executive Director for The Write Source and Golden Quill Press, responsible for editing, manuscript preparation, publication and marketing, as well as teaching writing classes and offering workshops.  Her approach to writing from an acting eye, made her classes work very productive.  During her management, Golden Quill Press has written and published: TELL IT TO THE FUTURE, NEW HORIZON’S, From an Idea… and most recently the edited version, HOW TO WRITE YOUR BOOK.

She was also responsible for the publication of many first time writer’s works:  MAE SINGS ABOUT SHORT VOWELS by Karen A. And recently she is very proud to be a part of the creation of TELL Others by 90-year-old writer, Marjorie Struck.  This book is a look at the family history of Depression, Addiction and Suicide.
"This is a must read that can truly save a life!

Francine is also the author of the sci-fi /fantasy, Code 47 to BREV Force, trilogy, a mainstream story with a sci-fi take on relationships and comin of age while dealing with family, friends, community, and the world around us.  She uses super-heroes in the world of computers, holograms, clones and sentient beings, to help our young tackles life's issues.

In the last few years she has again turned her attention to our youth and is again tutoring many young writers.  In her efforts to bring out their creativity, Francine goes back to basics and uses her training from her alma mata, The Academy of Music and Theatre, to help them unleash their creativity and imagination with an actor’s view of writing.

However busy, she continues to write short stories and articles for the internet and for various sites.

Code 47 to BREV Force, A Trilogy

By: F. Barish-Sternn

The theme of “Code 47 to BREV Force,” though drenched in fantasy and fictional supposition, echoes the reality of our world today…a world where technology rules and evil seems to lurk everywhere.  A world where our youth are targets– their beliefs and values, their family, friends and country are all being called into question.  A world where everything these young people have been taught is being blown apart and brainwashing leaves them ready to give their lives for the enemy.  That enemy knows exactly how to use their age, inexperience and doubts to recruit them, corrupt their minds and to build its army of followers.   This trilogy begins with Cracko, then QuizMaster, MixMatcher and finally the ultimate battle with Controller.
